The Quit Group

Quit Smoking Programmes

Aukati Kai Paipa

·      

This programme is run in nearly 40 sites around the country. It primarily targets Māori women and their whānau, and provides one-on-one counselling to help people quit smoking. To find your nearest provider go to http://www.tehotumanawa.org.nz/smoking-cessation/local-directory.cfm.


Quitline

·      

Here is information about how to become part of the Quitline programme and order a Quit pack that includes low cost nicotine patches and gum, (nicotine replacement therapy). Join the online quitter community, getting help from friends and family. Call the Quitline free on 0800 778 778 and talk to an advisor (including Māori and Pacific advisors).

Lungfish

This is a fun, vibrant, kids’ site discouraging smoking. It includes competitions, games, puzzles, smokefree info for kids, parents and teachers, how to quit, Lungfish Challenge, and much more. Kids up to 15 can create a smokefree rap, song, magazine ad or video. There are smokefree celebrity messages and you can join the Lungfish club.

Smokefree Councils

Many councils in New Zealand are considering developing smokefree policies to discourage smoking in outdoor areas such as playgrounds and parks used by children and many have already implemented such policies. This website covers New Zealand and international experiences. It provides information for the general public on how to motivate or work with local authorities with the goal of introducing smokefree outdoor areas, and also has information for councils.
