World Smokefree Day
Co-ordinator:
Goals and objectives
To promote smokefree to the Marlborough Girls’ college students, lead by the senior students.
Target audience
Marlborough Girls’ College students.
Project fit with 2025 aims
It supports the initiative to reduce the uptake of smoking amongst female youth.
What happened
Engaged with the College to identify whether they would support WSFD. They then decided what their approach was going to be. We provided them with resources and cessation support.
Partners
Smokefree Marlborough Coalition and Marlborough Girls’ College.
Key outcomes
A health awareness campaign held in the school hall, lead by the senior students. They interacted with students through balloon games, information and resources as prizes.
Key learnings
What worked well:
- Being supported by the school.
- Having students drive a promotion.
- Providing resources through the HPA resource kits we were given.
What didn’t work:
- Due to a teacher’s only day, the event was rescheduled for a day earlier. The day went well.
- Unable to get any photos for the event.
What would you do differently:
- Have a Smokefree Coalition member on site.
