Goals and objectives
Promoting World Smokefree Day 2015. Generating evidence of, and local support for, smokefree cars.
Target audience
Parents, caregivers and the wider community.
Project fit with 2025 aims
Project fits with this year’s call to action ‘don’t expose others to second hand smoke, especially children’.
What happened
Surveyed people at various sites across the Southern district during the month of May (including libraries, shopping malls, childcares and community events).
Partners
Partners from the three Southern Smokefree Coalitions including: Asthma Society, Cancer Society, Heart Foundation, Southern DHB and Well South.
Key outcomes
- Generated awareness about WSFD 31 May
- Generated local evidence in support of Smokefree cars (via numbers of surveys completed)
Key learnings
The red car and the stickers were a big hit with the children as were the ‘I Love Smokefree Cars’ bumper stickers.
To date we have collected 489 surveys; we aim to collect 1000 and then use them to advocate for change.
Thanks to Professor Janet Hoek and Emeritus Professor Phil Grendall who helped us refine and develop Smokefree cars survey.
